Sarina Suno - Biography
Sarina has been playing violin from age five. She started with a classical training, won several classical violin competitions at an early age, but quickly started exploring other areas, focusing on Jazz and Rock. After attending renown Toho Gakuen High School of Music, she went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, studied with jazz violin professors Matt Glaser, Rob Thomas and Mimi Rabson. She graduated with Honors from Berklee in 2003.
While at Berklee, Sarina was the lead violinist, arranger and composer for the innovative string and turntable ensemble MystiQuintet. Shortly after graduating from College, Sarina got a record deal with Victor Entertainment, one of the largest major labels in Japan, under Village Music Inc. / Sony Music Group management, and between Feb 2006 and mid 2007 has been touring intensively all over Japan, released three CDs all of which made it to the top 10 charts on iTunes, released two music videos which got extensive air time on MTV Japan, performed live on dozens of national radio stations and on several national Talk Shows and TV programs. Her songs are featured on several TV show, documentaries etc. on a regular basis and Silver Storm, one of the songs from her latest album, is used as a theme song for a nationally televised show on Fuji TV.
For the last year Sarina has been living in New York City. During this time she recorded her first self produced Jazz CD "Introducing Sarina Suno", featuring Mike Stern and Dave Weckl, among others. Her Jazz quartet has been very active, with performances in many of New York's venues, including the Blue Note, the Kitano, 55 Bar, Jules and others. The Sarina quartet has had several live performances on radio stations such as WBAI, 99.5FM, WMBR 88.1FM, WNYE 91.5 and others. In New York and elsewhere in the States, Sarina has had the honor of sharing the stage with Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Kenny Barron, Mads Tolling, Marco Panascia, Peter Slavov, Francisco Mela and more.
While in New York, Sarina has also been pursuing musical avenues along the lines of the electronic music she was doing in Japan, and has been performing in a electric violin and DJ duo in most of New York's night clubs, including Buddha Bar, Mansion, Arena, Nikki Beach, Prime, Keybar and others. Performances in these venues have allowed the sale of thousands of CD, immensive exposure to live audiences, and the opportunity of collaborating with some of New York's best DJs.
